Roy Morgan Research is the largest provider of face-to-face interviewers and research in Australia. Using innovative technology to adapt to the needs of the client and the market place, we are known for our reliability and accuracy.

The following are examples of ongoing, large-scale research projects we have been commissioned to conduct for government and other policy-makers.

National Drug Strategy Household Survey

Since 1998, Roy Morgan Research has conducted all waves of the National Drug Strategy Household Survey on behalf of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Department of Health and Ageing. The survey provides detailed national data about awareness, attitudes and behaviour relating to licit and illicit drugs.

Most waves – which are conducted every three years – have utilised a self-completion (drop and collect) methodology as the prime approach, though other methods have also been used, such as in-person and telephone interviewing. In 2010, a total of 26,648 complete and usable questionnaires were obtained.

Defence Census

Every four years since 1995, Roy Morgan Research has conducted Australia’s Defence Census, with more than 102,000 Census forms distributed to Defence employees around Australia and overseas in 2011 alone.

The aim of the Defence Census is to establish an authoritative, credible profile of all Defence members and their family circumstances, so as to develop policies for personnel related to family support and work-life balance. The Census data is also invaluable in Defence workforce planning and infrastructure initiatives.

Despite the significant challenges presented in the distribution and collection of Census forms to so many personnel deployed on offshore and overseas operations, an excellent response rate is achieved.

International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project

Roy Morgan Research has been conducting research for the International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project (the ITC Project) since its inception in 2002.

The ITC Project is the first-ever international cohort study of tobacco use, a collaborative effort with international health organisations and policy-makers in over 20 countries. Its overall objective is to measure the psychosocial and behavioural impact of key national-level policies of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.

As part of the ITC Project, Roy Morgan Research has conducted major research studies in Australia, the UK, the USA, Canada, Ireland and New Zealand.
